Community Outreach: science demonstrations
Teaching Interests:
I am currently teaching introductory courses in Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, as well as a course that introduces various topics in science to Elementary Education majors. I believe it is important to apply the same approach to teaching that I have used in research. This means that I have to continuously modify my teaching pedagogy using scientific methods. Accordingly, I am constantly improving my lecture style based on contemporary physics education research (PER). In particular, I have adopted an active learning model; where, various PER techniques of “Just In Time Teaching” are applied. I have noticed a substantial improvement in the average normalized gain of student assessment performance on both the Force Concept Inventory (FCI) and the Conceptual Survey of Electricity and Magnetism (CSEM). I believe that this is a proper approach to address the changes in higher education and modernize the students’ classroom experience.
